When I was little and my mom would bake she would let me stand on a chair next to her so that I could reach the counter and "help" her bake. I am sure I was probably more trouble than good but I loved feeling useful as I tried to taste the dough and help bake the cookies. One day when my mom and I were baking I smelt the vanilla and LOVED the way that it smelt. It smelt so delicious and wonderful I begged my mom to let me taste it. She told me that she had done the same thing with her mom and that vanilla does not taste as good as it smells. I continued to beg her saying that I would like the flavor even if she didn't. It smelt so amazing that I was convinced it could not possibly taste bad. Finally my mom let me taste just a little bit of vanilla. It was awful of course but I was and am still so grateful that my mom let me try the vanilla. Like most things in life my mom gives me wise advice and steps back and allows me to make decisions.
